Roman Vassilenko, the Kazakhstani US embassy’s spokesman, continues to put up videos about Kazakhstan on Youtube. Together with the fact that he remains the only state official that has ever commented on neweurasia, he could be duly called the cyber ambassador of Kazakhstan, or Kazakhstan’s Web 2.0 spokesman. The latest one he put up is about the tourist destination Kazakhstan:
It was noted that the process of democratic development was directly dependent on the efficiency of cooperation between the state and civil society united by a common goal, but performing different functions. In Uzbekistan, a country that has selected its own way of development based on the principles determined by President Islam Karimov, an extensive experience in the construction of civil society has been accumulated. Public institutions actively assist government agencies implement the reforms in all spheres of life. The establishment of such interaction is also needed in Russia.

In what seems to be the most post-active day in the history of this blog, here’s another song recorded with quite a few people:
For Solidspace’s “Battlefields”, Silas lent his vocals, Vera composed some of the Rhodes parts, Moe played guitar and bass, Robert helped with the drums programming… and I hope I didn’t forget anyone.

I changed the permissions of the Flickr album of my old band so now everyone can look at them. It’s partly because I want my former bandmates to see them as well… and send me more pictures. The shame with these pre-digital-age things is that most of the photos were analogue and no one has really taken on the work of archiving them for us to sit over them and laugh once we’re 50.

Digging up some old sound files from my hard drive, I am going to put some self-composed music up this site from now on. From the electronica LP I recorded in Berlin back in 2003, this song still is one of my favourites, although the sound quality isn’t very good unfortunately. It’s called Mr Groovy, and my friend Christian did the vocals on that one:

Robert, a good friend from back home in Berlin, has designed his impressive portfolio website some while ago, and I always wanted to put up a plug to his site. I am particularly fond of his poster designs, like this one called: “Discrimination – Marginalisation”

I uploaded my Bachelor thesis on Kazakhstan. It can be downloaded here.
“Our natural resources are an enormous wealth. Yet, paradoxical as it is, the world experience testifies to the fact that many a country possessing substantial natural resources failed to dispose of them in the best possible way and – consequently – to this day they rate as poor. East-Asian countries marked with most effective and dynamic development happened to be the countries which could hardly boast of natural resources. All this is but to emphasize the fact that actually paramount factors are people themselves, their willpower, energy, persistence and knowledge. In fact, it is the very “key of gold” that would enable us open the door to welfare and independence.
However, a negative world experience is also a good teacher. It shows quite unequivocally that absence of strategies or that of the ability of realization thereof outweighs the notorious potential of natural resources. Hence – the major conclusion we have to make – we have to work out a well-considered strategy and to persistently put it into practice in defiance of all the difficulties. The wealth of the entrails of the earth is the property of all subsequent generations. However the circumstance must not lull us to relaxation. On the contrary, all of us, the Government included, must live and work as though we never possessed it [sic].” – President Nursultan Nazarbayev, ‘Strategy 2030’ (1997)
